On-Farm Testings (OFTs) carried out by KVK Papum Pare are farmer-centric trials conducted on selected farmers’ fields to assess the suitability of improved agricultural technologies under local conditions. These include new crop varieties, nutrient and pest management practices, water-saving methods and small machinery, tested against farmers’ existing practices. By evaluating technologies directly in farmers’ fields, the KVK ensures recommendations are relevant to the soils, climate and socio-economic conditions of the district.
The main objectives of these OFTs are to validate adaptability, measure yield and economic benefits, and capture farmer feedback for refining recommendations. Results are shared through field days and demonstrations so neighbouring farmers can witness outcomes first-hand. Successful practices are promoted for wider adoption through training, extension programmes and seasonal advisories, thereby strengthening farmer–scientist linkages and supporting improved productivity and livelihoods in the region.
